Role Description

The Agroeconomist will work full time on-site in Jijel, Algeria, supporting agricultural and rural development projects through economic analysis and research. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data on agricultural production, markets, and rural livelihoods, and preparing reports, forecasts, and policy recommendations. The role involves evaluating the economic feasibility of agricultural projects, conducting cost–benefit analyses, and assessing the impact of programs on farmers and rural communities. The Agroeconomist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, engage with local stakeholders, and contribute to the design of strategies that improve productivity, income generation, and resource use. The position also requires participation in field visits, monitoring and evaluation activities, and presenting findings to internal and external partners.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in agricultural economics, rural development, or economics, with the ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Experience in data collection, statistical analysis, and use of relevant software tools (e.g., Excel, statistical packages) for economic modeling and forecasting
- Knowledge of agricultural production systems, value chains, market dynamics, and policies affecting rural and agricultural sectors
- Ability to prepare clear reports, policy briefs, and presentations, and to communicate complex findings to non-specialist audiences
- Relevant academic background, such as a bachelor's or master's degree in agricultural economics, economics, agronomy with specialization in economics, or a related field
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a field-oriented environment
- Capacity to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and local stakeholders, and to participate in fieldwork in rural areas
- Proficiency in French and/or Arabic; knowledge of English is an asset for accessing international research and best practices
- Familiarity with Algerian rural development context and national agricultural strategies is highly beneficial
